Southwest United Synagogue Youth Regional Teen Engagement Director: Jacki Honig
“I want to live in a world of more libraries, creative teens, and baking ware that magically washes itself (maybe even a full set of dishes, pots, & pans to go with it).”
Growing up in Far West USY shaped who I have become as a Jewish adult, and my time serving as chapter director for Motor City USY and Regional Youth Director for CRUSY has shaped who I am as a Jewish educator. During my time living in Metro Detroit (as chapter and regional director) I was involved in community programs including J-Serve, Community Shabbatonim, and BBYO partnership programs. I was also selected to be part of the first cohort of the Single Soul initiative, training in crisis intervention and suicide prevention.
In my “real life” outside of USY (even though it often seeps in), I enjoy ballroom dancing, tabletop gaming, baking, and hanging out with basically any animal (excluding birds). I also love terrible puns, six word stories, and dad jokes! Next time you see me around, feel free to share your favorite groan-inducing jokes, ask me about your favorite nerdy movie/TV show, or challenge me to a round of whatever game you’re prepared to teach me! Random ice breaker questions are also an acceptable introduction. In case you were wondering, if I could turn any activity into an Olympic sport and wanted to have a good shot at winning a medal for it, I would pick challah baking! What about you?
