Spring Kallah was a a big accomplishment! With the hard work of Brenda Hamicha and Rachel Kimmelman, Spring Kallah would of never been incredible if it wasn’t for their dedication! During our weekend, we took the time to really internalize the problem of hunger and poverty locally and internationally. From volunteering at the food bank to simulating the choices of a near poverty family and to our intense and emotional hunger banquet, we knew that all USYers were moved by the lessons of the weekend. We also took the time to discuss our spiritual hunger and to question the kind of relationship we are all looking for with God and Judaism.
It wouldn’t be USY without lots of exciting social activities too! We trained for our own LARP Hunger Games event with laser tag and target practice. USYers sharpened their minds with trivia challenges and practiced camouflage with face painting. All of the training led up to our big Hunger Games event where after a long battle, the resistance eventually defeated President Snow! We then finally closed the convention with friendship circle and everyone was delighted to have taken part in a magical weekend that will create memories that will last a lifetime.

SWUSY’s Spring Kallah was a success! Nearly 60 USYers and 8th graders from all across the region came together in OKC for SWUSY Spring Kallah 2013, Law & Order: J.E.W. was the best show of the season! Friday evening began with crazy-fun mixers, Shabbat services, a colorful discussion of medieval Jewish capital punishment methods, and group hide and seek! As always, SWUSY’s service leaders out-did themselves, and SWUSY has left Emmanuel Synagogue in OKC with the real essence of SWUSY ruach!
Saturday was complete with lovely services, a group discussion (and improv session?) about punishment and law in the ancient days of Judaism. First time convention-goers attended a private gathering, and SWUSY’s future leaders got to conference with the Regional Executive Board. SWUSYites solved the great who-done-it mystery and learned about Israel during Israeli clue. Then, we caravan-ed on a bus and spent an incredible night at the party barn, complete with a dance floor, bonfire, petting zoo, and game room!
Unfortunately, the region learned that Seguaro the Cactus didn’t survive his kidnapping. He is currently in the hospital undergoing operations to try to resuscitate him. Will he make it? Find out at Regionals 2013!
